History
In 2005, the Tsunami disaster in Aceh, North Sumatra, Indonesia makes Aceh, which have beautiful and rich natural resources be shattered, and the number of death and injuries reached 200 thousand people. That disaster made many people lose their place to live. At that time, Buddhist all over the world were involved in attention to victims of disaster. At the same time, Buddhist in Indonesia realizes that in this 21st century, required a buddhist religious center which can increase the moral ethics of society. Not long afterwards, a landlord give 18,6 hectares area in complex Cemara Abadi. On that ground, built Mahakaruna Buddhist Center (MKBC).
Architecture
MKBC development process is divided into 3 phases: Stage One, founded Metta, Karuna, Mudita, Upeksa, flats as shelters for those whose income is minimal. In this place, the Volunteers provide job trainning for them. After earning the amount specified in MKBC, they would allowed to leave the flats. Until now, the flats that have been finished consists of 4 building. Each building can accommodate 92 families. Total of flats can accommodate 368 families. Area of each house is 60 square meters, consists of 2 rooms, living rooms, dinning rooms, kitchen, bathroom, terracce. Currently, these flats have started functioning.
In the development process of the 2nd stage, built a graded Bhaktisala and yard with ancient architectural style. It also built the corridor with more than 300 meters long which was accompanied by the Buddhist ornaments and Jataka stories in Indonesian, Mandarin and English language on both sides of wall corridor. The corridor is surrounding the Bhaktisala square. Bahktisala space built with the concept of Mandala Buddha in the area of 4000 meters.
On the 2nd level of Bhaktisala corridor wall, there is a story that quoted from Mahayana Sutras like the Saddharma Pundarika Sutra and the Avatamsaka Sutra. In the height of 21 meters, stands a 16 meters high of Buddha Statue. Total height from ground floor to the roof is 53 meters. In the pavilion on both sides will be constructed 4 Auditoriums. Each auditorium can accommodate thousands of people. In 2 pavilion buildings will be built 246 rooms for visitors, meditation room, pronounciation the name of Buddha room, museums, dining room, and other public facilities. All buildings will be built on a land area of 44.000 meters. Auditorium with ancient architectural styles that have been constructed are used as Dharma resentation.
The third Development Project would be built Buddhist university. This project will begin running in 2015.
