In Caring for the society during the Covid-19 Pandemic, Mahavira Graha Buddhist Monasteries Donated medical equipment and daily necessities to the needy Buddhists
The global Covid-19 outbreak started at the end of 2019 and has spread over to the world today. Southeast Asian countries was influenced after the 2nd lunar month. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the abbot Most Venerable Hui Xiong in concern and care had ordered more than 20,000 masks and instructed Venerable Fa Zhi, Venerable Xin Ling and Venerable Hui Zhen and local devotees to assist in distributing to the temples in the remote countryside of Hui’an provinces, Zhangzhou province and Anhui province China in early 2nd lunar month.
The Venerable Abbot also distributed masks to the location of the migrant workers ’residence in Singapore to represent the concern of the Buddhist community. After Guan Yin Avalokitsvara Bodhisattva’s birthday puja, Venerable Abbot flew to Taipei to distribute mask as a few monasteries also seek the assistant from the abbot to distribute masks to several Buddhist monasteries in Taipei.
After returning from Taiwan, Indonesia’s Covid 19 outbreak and spread very badly. On the beginning of the 3rd month of the lunar, the Venerable abbot ordered more than 100,000 masks and sent them to the countryside of Semarang, Central Java Indonesia. Venerable Chuan Ling was responsible for the distribution of medical equipment and masks in the care of more than 30 Indigenous natives temples.
In April 2020, due to the closure of the province and the Muslim Eid al-Fitr festival in May, the central government called on people do not return to hometowns during the Eid al-Fitr festival, citizens was not allow to return to their hometowns, and can only pray for Eid al-Fitr rituals in their residences. In response to the government ’s call, Venerable Chuan Hui from Surabaya represented Vihara Mahavira Graha and with the Surabaya magistrate together distributed the medical equipment, masks, daily necessities, and red packets to locals who unable return to the country for Eid al-Fitr, and also distributed to dozens of hospital groups in remote suburbs and needy areas.
