On July 22, Most Venerable Kuan Yun—President of the Hong Kong Buddhist Association and Abbot of Western Monastery—visited Beeh Low See Temple in Singapore for an exchange and goodwill visit. The fourfold assembly of the temple lined up in welcome, accompanied by the sounds of bells and drums, and the Venerable offered incense and paid homage to the Buddha in the main hall.

This marks Most Venerable Kuan Yun’s first official visit to Singapore since assuming the presidency of the Hong Kong Buddhist Association. During this trip, he met with the President of the World Buddhist Sangha Council and Abbot of Beeh Low See Temple, Most Venerable Hui Siong. A dialogue and exchange session was held in the VIP reception room. Distinguished guests included Ven. Ryan from Ananda Buddhist Temple (Theravāda, Singapore), Ven. Seeha from the Sri Lankan temple also serves as English Deputy Secretary-General of the World Buddhist Sangha Council, as well as Most Venerable Zhending, Most Venerable Fashun, and representatives from various Bhikkhuni monasteries in Singapore.
During the session, the participants reflected on the pivotal role Hong Kong Buddhism played in the 1980s and 90s, when senior monks such as Ven. Kok Kwong, Ven. Wing Sing, and Ven. Sai Chin promoted exchanges with both Southeast Asia and the broader global Theravada, Mahayana & Vajrayana Buddhist community. They also successfully hosted multiple international Buddhist conferences in Hong Kong. The discussion highlighted Hong Kong Buddhism’s deep commitment to education, including the founding of institutions such as Bodhi Buddhist College, Huaxia Institute, and the Sanxue Nunnery Buddhist Academy in Haicheng. Other achievements included the establishment of a Buddhist hospital and several Buddhist primary and secondary schools, earning high regard from the global Buddhist community and significantly elevating Hong Kong Buddhism’s international presence.
At noon, Beeh Low See Temple hosted a formal banquet to warmly welcome Most Venerable Kuan Yun’s first visit to Singapore. During the meal, Ven. Seeha from the Sri Lankan Theravāda temple and Deputy Secretary-General of the WBSC shared his admiration for the thriving Buddhist landscape in Hong Kong, especially during the recent Executive Committee Meeting of the WBSC held there in April. He expressed deep respect for the unity among the three major Buddhist traditions—Theravāda, Mahayana & Vajrayana—and emphasized that mutual respect among monastics will lead to the flourishing of Buddhism.

Following the welcome luncheon, the Hong Kong delegation proceeded to the airport to return home. This exchange visit was of profound significance and laid a solid foundation for future cooperation and international Buddhist endeavors, contributing to the continued global growth of Buddhism.
