On Tuesday, January 7, 2025, Vihara Sahassa Buddha Medan will commemorate the day of Sakyamuni Buddha’s attainment of perfection. This event will be observed by reciting the 88 Buddhas Sutra.

This sutra contains the recitation of the names of 88 Buddhas, and reading it is also a form of reverence and respect for the Enlightened Buddhas.

The current Buddha is Sakyamuni Buddha. Sakyamuni Buddha (Siddhartha Gautama) attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree. After achieving enlightenment, Sakyamuni Buddha spread the Buddha’s teachings (Dharma) to end the suffering of all beings and guide them toward Nirvana—liberation from the cycle of reincarnation, life’s suffering, and the attainment of enlightenment.
