About Mahavira Graha Surabaya

Surabaya is the 2nd largest city in Indonesia. Vihara Mahavira Graha Surabaya is a central for promoting Buddhism. On every Sunday morning, there is a Youth Buddhist Study Club, followed by afternoon prayer and Dhamma Talk. The youth activities of this temple includes dance club, lion dance club, Buddhism choir etc. Aside from this, this temple also founds a Bodhi Aid Society; facilitating unscheduled activities such as providing meal as well as hosting Buddhism Talk or Buddhism Dance & Cultural performances. They also schedules visit to nursing homes & orphanages, provides aids and care to victims of natural disasters.

History

This building was originally a bank, which was foreclosed during economy crises. When local government auctioned off this building, it was acquired by Buddhist Foundation and built as a Buddhist Centre in East Java; this has become the talking point of public at that time.

Architecture

Vihara Mahavira Graha Surabaya was built in the city of Surabaya, Central Java. It faces south and built on a land of 20.100m²
